ASCD Student Chapter

The ASCD Student Chapter of the Teacher Education Program at the University of the Fraser Valley is an incredibly active lot. Nearly all members of the cohort are ASCD members. As well as supporting the growth of themselves as teachers, part of their mission is to raise funds to buy resources for their program at UFV and financially supporting causes of schools both in the Fraser Valley and around the world.

On August 27  the students and faculty in the picture caught 6000 chickens out of a barn in Chilliwack. While this may be a novelty to many of our urban members, many of our student teachers were experienced chicken catchers from their church youth group fund-raising days. The work has to be done after dark when the chickens are inactive. The barn is dark, noisy, a little smelly and very dusty. Most of us were covered in dust afterwards. The result was $1500 (that is a lot of bake sales) and a deep bonding experience.
