President’s message
by Judy Robb
Perhaps one of the most exciting things about our profession these days is the quality of educational research which is informing our practice. Of special note is the work being done on assessment: as learning, for learning and of learning. One of the core questions, of course, is: what is worth measuring and how to we measure it most accurately?
In this age of accountability, schools themselves are being measured. Most of us have very strong opinions about what is worth measuring in schools and how those assessments should be conducted. For this reason alone, it will be very stimulating to hear the debate between two prominent British Columbians who have expertise in the field of measuring schools. Dr. Paul Shaker, Dean of Education at Simon Fraser University, and Peter Cowley, Director of School Performance Studies of the Fraser Institute are certain to present compelling arguments which will ignite our own conversations about this important issue. You will want to be there on January 18 th, 2007.
